Social Networking For The Classroom Teacher

Social Networking for purposes of this class include: Facebook (FB), Twitter and Blogging. Each tool will have it's own blog that we may use to discuss and post issues. Even though we will use blogging as the central website for communication both FB and Twitter are much more widely used. However, for your personal classroom purposes you may find blogging a more effective way to communicate, especially since most schools won't allow students to use FB. As this class moves along be thinking about projects that you may complete in the class as well as outside the class for your own use with students, staff, family and friends. The type of projects you choose are entirely up to you. Choose ones to create that will be most useful to you as a professional. You may find personal projects for family and friends useful as well. 1. Do you have a Facebook account? 2. Do you have a Twitter account? 3. Do you have a Blogging account? 4. Do you use any of the above social networking tools for educational purposes and/or in you classroom? 5. If you answered yes to #4 above how do you use these tools in your classroom? 6. If you answered no to #4 how might you use social networking tools in your classroom? 7. What projects might you create for professional or personal use using these tools?

Summary Of Recent Social Networking Tool Changes

Blogger (owned by Google) has redesigned it's interface. It is now much more intuitive and follows the designs of many of the software programs that we have used over the past 25 years. There is a tutorial and short videos that we will use to get up to speed on this new interface and web base social networking tool. The 'mobile blooger' (downloaded from iTunes) is also available now for other phone including Android and iPhone. Facebook in no longer a private company and had its' IPO this past Spring. It now has an option for Timeline which list your posting by date posted. The number of user is rapidly approaching 1 billion. Twitter has not really seen any changes this year and continues to grow in popularity.
